PROUDLY YELLOW & BLACK
Every now and then, a moment comes along that makes you stop and smile. Not just for what’s been achieved, but for what it represents.
As a coach, I’ve had the privilege of watching Maddie Marshall , Mimi Stoupas , and Jemma Potts grow through our club, each carving out their own path. Seeing all three earn national honours recently has been incredibly special. Their stories are different, but together they show what’s possible.
Maddie and Mimi have been selected to represent Australia at the World Uni Games in Germany. It’s a huge achievement and a reflection of their resilience, discipline, and quiet determination. Reaching this level is never easy, especially for Victorian athletes who often feel they need to move interstate or overseas to chase their goals.
Maddie’s journey proves that it can be done from here. She has developed almost entirely within our club, training consistently and trusting the process year after year. She’s a powerful example for every junior coming through — you don’t have to leave home to go far.
Mimi has spent the past two seasons developing in the U.S. college system, but her foundation was built right here. Her selection shows there’s more than one path to the top. The starting point might be the same, but the route can look different. That’s the beauty of sport — you have options.
And late last year, Jemma was selected for the Australian U18 team that competed at the World Championships in China. Not only did she represent her country, she was named best player in two matches. That kind of recognition doesn’t happen by luck. It’s earned through talent, focus, and a lot of hard work when no one is watching. Jemma’s rise is a reminder that world-class athletes can emerge early — and they can come from right here.
I’m incredibly proud of Maddie, Mimi, and Jemma. Their success also reflects the strength of our club community — teammates, coaches, families, and volunteers who have helped shape their journeys.
Wherever they go, they carry the a bit of Richmond Yellow and Black with them and we’ll be cheering them every step of the way.
